Full Biography

Arash Badie, an Iranian Tar player, graduated from Fine Art Educational Center of Karaj at the field of Music- Iranian Instruments Performance, was born on Dec.16, 2000 in Sary, Iran raised in Karaj, and currently based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. As a son of a Tar manufacturer, he grew up with music and many musicians, and he started learning how to play the Tar on Oct. 2009 under Hoshang Farahani’s supervision at first.
 
After 7 years of learning and playing the Tar with many different music teachers and masters, such as Ali Ghamsari, Radman Tavakoli and Milad Derakhshani, he realized that music is his greatest passion and he decided to continue his high school education in the field of music.
 
At the same time, he started to learn the piano skills under Prof. Tengiz Shavlokhashvili as well as classical music courses (harmony, form, solfege) under Mr. Morteza Shirkohi. Additionally, he started playing the Tar on the high school music ensemble where they played pieces composed by Arash Badie in the genre of Iranian music in many concerts and performances in Tehran and Karaj. Moreover, he got a chance to become as a student of one of the greatest prominent Iranian musicians, namely Hossein Alizadeh, for a limited time of one year, from 2017 to 2018. After years of hard practice, in the summer of 2017, he used his opportunity in a school musical competition and won the first place as a Tar player - firstly at the provincial level, and secondly, at the National level.
 
In the last academic year of his high school studies, he started working on his own music and he was eventually able to compose 10 peices and started recording them with some expert musicians, such as Atena Eshtiaghi and some players from his high school in Kargadan Studio, located in Tehran. Precisely after graduating, those 10 pieces were finally released as an album, called Hejar by Raha Records Inc, on all major online music platforms, such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and the like.
 
Due to the persecutions and discriminations enforced by authorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran on religious minoroties, he was depeived of furthering his studies in universities and not being allowed to perform in official and national concerts,he had to leave Iran in order to expanding his vision as a musician and follow his path. and flew to Turkey in January 2020.

He started travelling around Turkey, to get familiar with the traditional and Turkish folk music. This gaved him a chance to meet amazing musicians from different regions of this country, such as Dr. Bilen Isiktas (Assoc. Prof. Dr. of Istanbul University State Conservatory of Musicology), who had a great impact on his practical research about Turkish Makams and also learning the history of Turkish music. Meanwhile, he was searching for a proper academic environment for his further studies. After three months of moving to Turkey, he became familiar with Codarts University. Eventually, he becamed a student Codarts University who was able to obtain a significant grant called Codarts Talent Grant. In August 2021, he moved to Rotterdam and officially started his Bachelor of World Music at Codarts.
 
Currently, as well as doing rehearsals and performing with his band at Codarts, Arash released his second album, The Line, digitally on all musical platforms. This album is the outcome of approximately three years of musical studies in relation with composition, oud, tar, makams, the usage of various forms of guitars and producing.
